Mrs Benkirane has been a key expert in the deployment of training for many of the 120 developing countries that are members of ISO. She has been involved in providing training at national, regional and international levels. ISO’s members from developing countries are grouped in 9 regions and regional training has the additional dimension of experience sharing and networking. She has thus intervened in South-East Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam), Africa (Namibia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Burkina Faso), Central and Eastern Europe (Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Macedonia, Armenia), Middle East (Jordan), South and Central America (Cuba). At the international level, Mrs Benkirane has provided direct training to developing country delegates and experts as part of preparatory sessions before their participation in ISO Technical Committee (ISO TC 34) responsible for developing international ISO standards on food products. At this level, the seminars also contributed to capacity-building to enable developing country delegates and experts to understand the issues due for discussion and successfully put their positions forward. As a result of her involvement in these types of events, I can assert that Mrs Benkirane has a high level of understanding of standards development matters as well as the proficiency to assist countries to apply these standards, with specific reference to the ISO standard on Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). She has as well the right management skills to lead and organize such international standards, considering the needs and challenges of all the counterparts.
