The Horticulture Trade Enhancement & Certification (HORTEC) project was initiated by the TBT Programme in collaboration with the Rwanda Private Sector Federation (RPSF), which is a professional-umbrella organization, dedicated to promote and represent the interests of the Rwandan business community.
The overall objective of the project is to improve export, competitiveness and market access of Rwanda horticulture products. More specifically the purposes are to train and to support selected small-scale farmers for the Global-G.A.P. certification and to strengthen the capacities of local service providers and national trade-related organisations to support horticulture producers and exporters in the certification process.
The project is structured on three phases: 1) a situation analysis and needs assessment of the horticulture producers and exports; 2) capacity building and trainings for local service providers and trainers from national trade-related organisations on food safety and quality, good agriculture practices, export quality management system, access to markets and 3) trainers coaching to small-scale farmers able to apply for the Global G.A.P. certification.
Right after the finalisation of the first phase, a training of trainers’ session took place in Kigali on from 18th to 22nd of January this year an gathered about 20 participants. For more information, watch here the video of the training handled by the senior expert Ghita Benkirane.
